Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Is buying on your website safe?
Of course. Paying by credit/debit card uses a secure connection (SSL encryption technology) operated by
PROTX, who are the UK's leading independent secure payment gateway providers. Card processing is undertaken by Streamline (part of The Royal Bank Of Scotland Group Plc), one of the leading secure payment solutions. We at fauxfurthrows.com have no access whatever to the card details that you enter. We offer a no-quibble returns policy, which is in addition to your Statutory rights (UK). Any personal information we hold is securely held and will not be passed to third parties without your consent.
Do you use animal furs?
Absolutely and positively not! Real animal fur is very beautiful, but we firmly believe it belongs only on the animal which grew it.
Modern textile technology makes the production of very realistic FAUX FUR both possible AND affordable, and you can be sure that no real animal fur is used in our products, nor were any animals harmed in the production of it.
Fauxfurthrows.com support the recent protests by Sir Paul McCartney against the real fur trade.
I have seen faux fur throws in the high street or on other websites at cheaper prices. Why is this?
As with most things, you get what you pay for. There are, indeed, some products at the top end of the market which are considerably more expensive than ours; we cannot doubt their quality and style, but such items are too expensive for the vast majority of consumers.
It was our mission to bring stylish, top quality products to the market at affordable prices.
This website gives you a lot of information on each style of throw because they are each unique. Other sources have little to say about the products – which usually means that there is only colour to distinguish the styles being offered.
Our products differ in the following ways to cheaper ones:
- Quality and thickness/denseness of fur. Cheaper furs usually contain fewer, shorter fibres and therefore feel less luxurious. In addition, each style of fur we sell has its own unique texture as well as colouring, and the length of the fibres will vary even within one style.
- Our high technology manufacturing process generates colouring of fibres which may vary subtly within each throw, closely imitating the colours of real animal fur. In some cheaper furs, the colouring is less subtle and in some cases appears to be crudely “sprayed” on.
- Our throws are backed in fine, colour co-ordinated faux suede. Cheaper throws are almost invariably backed in fleece. Fleece will tend to “bobble” over time, and generally provides less friction than faux suede, so our throws will be less likely to slide off smooth surfaces such as leather sofas.
How soon will I receive the goods I have ordered?
Please allow normally 5 working days (UK) or 10 days (elsewhere). We hold large stocks, but in the rare event of items being out of stock, you will be informed by e-mail of the expected despatch date. Your card will only be charged when goods are despatched.
You may cancel out of stock items at any time up to the day before despatch date.

What happens if I don't like my throw or cushions when they arrive?
We are very confident in the quality of our products, and have carefully constructed this website to give you as much information, and to provide you with high quality images prior to making your purchasing decision. However, if you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, please return it within 14 days of receipt in its original condition and packaging and we will make a full refund (see our RETURNS POLICY)
What is the guarantee on your products?
Our goods are guaranteed 12 months from date of purchase against faulty materials or workmanship. With care and in normal use, we confidently expect that they will last much longer. At the time of writing (September 2006), we have sold over 2500 throws with only two reported claims for faulty materials or manufacture.
What constitutes “normal use”?
Our throws are designed as decorative household accessories, rather than for practical everyday use. All fine furs, real or artificial, are delicate items and should be treated as such. You wouldn’t sleep in granny's real mink coat, would you?
Whilst our throws may be used to decorate the top of a bed, for example, they are not designed for everyday sitting or lying on, certainly not for sleeping in. An occasional comfort snooze on the sofa is not, of course, out of the question!
Also beware of pets, especially cats. Cats appear to adore our faux furs, and will ecstatically “knead” the fur with their claws (cat lovers will understand what this means). This is not good for the fabric, and is not covered by your guarantee.
Why do you not sell throws to fit different bed sizes?
Our throws are designed for decorative accessories rather than to fit specific sizes of bed. Because of the thickness of the materials, “tucking in” of excess material would look unattractive. That would mean we would have to make many different sizes of throws to fit the many different widths and heights of beds available today. If we were to do this, we could not produce such high quality goods at such affordable prices.
In any event, market trends show movement away from the “totally fitted” look. Try casually draping a ruffled throw over the base of a plain bedcover to create added colour and texture. Wow!
Where are your throws and cushions designed and made?
Our goods are designed in the UK exclusively for ourselves, and manufactured under close quality control in a modern manufacturing plant in China. All materials used including faux fur and faux suedes are also made in China using state of the art technology. Cushion pads (inners) are made in the UK.
Do you use Tissavel faux fur?
No. Tissavel is a top quality branded faux fur made in France, used in the most expensive of faux fur products. However, our fabrics are made using a similar manufacturing process and we believe our (unbranded) fur is of equivalent quality, bringing you luxury previously unavailable at this price.
Can I wash my throw and cushions?
Some throws are marked as dry clean only - please see individual product pages. Some throws and cushion covers may be machine or hand washed at 30 deg C, and spin dried or line dried. After washing, raise pile of fur using a soft hairbrush. NEVER use bleach or strong cleaning chemicals; do NOT tumble dry.
Do your furs shed fibres?
When your faux fur products arrive, they may contain a few loose fibres left over from the manufacturing process. A good shake outside will normally remove these. Thereafter, our furs do not shed fibres under normal conditions of use.
Are your products hypo-allergenic?
Our products have not been tested for allergies; however, all fibres are 100% artificial, except for feather cushion pads. Those with allergies to feathers or dust should select fibre inners.
What fire precautions should be observed?
As with many fabrics made from artificial fibres, our throws and cushions are not totally fire retardant. They should therefore be kept well away from naked flames and incandescent materials, especially lit cigarettes. Carelessness causes fires; please take care.
My throw has arrived with creases in the fur. How can I remove these?
Unfortunately, fur fabrics can become creased and compressed when folded in transit. Usually these will fall out after a few days when the throw is opened out. Occasionally however such creases may be a little more stubborn; if this happens, remedy by opening the throw out and covering the affected areas with a damp towel for about an hour. After this time, the underlying fibres should be more flexible and can be gently brushed into place and allowed to dry. Never attempt to iron a throw.
